Go Wild in Eden, the roving angler scheme for the Eden Valley in Cumbria, is back for 2006. Launched by the Eden Rivers Trust (reg. charity no. 1059534) in 2005 it proved very popular with locals and tourists alike and four new beats have been added this year.

Providing exclusive access to some of Cumbria’s most unspoiled countryside Go Wild is catch and release fly fishing with an added challenge! This is really wild trout fishing along rivers left just as Mother Nature intended, so access is not always easy, never mind the fishing! Only those anglers that like a challenge need apply!

‘Go Wild in Eden’ is also doing its bit for sustainable tourism in the region. The objective of the scheme is to bring in an income to rivers where the Eden Rivers Trust has carried out habitat improvement work or is planning work in the future. As the fishing is on private land the income from the scheme goes to the landowners, so not only does visitor spending go straight into the Cumbrian economy, it also encourages landowners to work with the Eden Rivers Trust to conserve and protect the environment.

To participate all anglers need to do is purchase Go Wild tokens, available from the Eden Rivers Trust on 01768 353992 or office@edenriverstrust.org.uk. Costing only £2.50 per token they are available in books of four and ten, and a guide book detailing the fishing beats is included in the cost. Anglers also need to apply for an environment agency rod licence (www.environment-agency.co.uk) and bring or hire angling equipment for the day.
