Fishing Report For September, 2010

September has once again proved to be a month that definitely favours anglers visiting the Reservoir, with weekly averages reaching 4.5 fish per angler visit. This through a mixture of mild and changeable weather, linked to an increase in water level, which appears to have brought a good number of fish in close to all banks. This movement was evident during yesterday’s inter club competition in which 31 anglers netted a total of 175 fish, this total including 24 full bags.

Those anglers opting to use Ledgered Worm are still producing consistent catches from areas such as “Badgers”, “Big Meadow” and  the “Field”. Those fishing Fly Boat are having the same level of success when fishing “The Point” and the top end of the main arm, whilst Fly Bank anglers are still doing very well from anywhere north of “Rainbow Bay”, especially when fishing from “The Top End”.

Over the past few weeks the majority of six fish limits on Ledgered Worm have all shown an average fish size of 1.75 to 2lbs, with a good number of limit bags in excess of 12lbs. Ronald Pound of Burry Port recorded a six fish bag of 11lbs 4ozs whilst fishing this method. Paddy Smiddy of Narbeth recorded a six fish bag weight of 14lbs 2ozs with a best fish of only 2lbs 9ozs. Albert Webb of Hakin recorded the best six fish limit whilst fishing ledgered worm, with a bag weighing15lbs and a best fish of 3lbs 8ozs.

Some of the best bags recorded by anglers fishing fly from the bank, include Brian Dalton, one of our season permit holders with two limit bags weighing 12lbs 2ozs and 12lbs 9ozs. S George of Narbeth took the best bag of the month from the bank, with 6 fish for 13lbs 4ozs, this included a best fish of 3lbs.

Honours however must go to Ian Davies of Narbeth who recorded a bag of 17lbs 7ozs whilst fishing fly from the boat. Ian’s bag included a best fish of 4lbs 8ozs.

This week’s free permit goes to Reg Hicks of Carew.

All anglers are reminded that although the season itself finishes on 31st October, the Reservoir does offer winter fishing for a limited period. During the close season this will be available from the 1st November until 19th December 2010. Bank fishing and boat fishing will be available between 09.30 and 16.00hrs during this period. Cost will be £12.50 per permit with a six fish limit. Anglers wishing to hire boats will have an additional cost of £10 on top of their permit price.
