Fishery report for October, 2010

As is expected at Llys-y-Fran, as the season draws to its conclusion, October regularly proves to be a good month for anglers who visit the water. Whether fishing fly or ledgered worm.

Anglers fishing fly from the bank have again been very successful in areas such as “The Field”, “Badgers” and especially the “Top End”, using an assortment of lines from intermediate to D.I.7. Successful patterns have included flies such as Diawl Bach, Olive Lures, black and green Montana, Viva, Boobies and Blobs.

Boat anglers are also doing well whilst fishing the “Top End” or “The Point”, with fish holding in numbers in these areas. The recent increase in the water level has pushed fish out of the “No Entry” areas, back into areas accessible by anglers.

Notable bags for those anglers fishing Fly from the bank over the past month include Steve Cole of Haverfordwest, with six fish for 12lbs, Ian Harries, also of Haverfordwest with six fish also for 12lbs. Ian’s bag included a best fish of 2lbs 8ozs.

Those opting to fish Fly from the boat have been consistently producing heavier six fish limits. Some of the best weekly bags are as follows: Newton Lee of Clunderwen with six fish for 13lbs 8ozs, with a best fish of 3lbs. Dai Key of Cardigan with a six fish limit weighing in at 14lbs. Brian Dalton of Haverfordwest with last weeks best bag for six fish. Brian’s bag totalled 14lbs 8ozs and included a best fish of 3lbs. Honours for the month however must go to Chris Davies of Clydach, Chris weighed in a six fish bag totalling 16lbs 4ozs with a best fish of 7lbs 3ozs. Well-done Chris.

Anglers fishing Ledgered worm are also doing well within most areas. Bags of note are as follows: Nathan Jones of Penygroes with six fish for 13lbs. John Morris of Narbeth with six fish for 13lbs 8ozs. Dai Morgan of Swansea with six for 14lbs and Sylvia Kilby of Narbeth with six fish for 15lbs 8ozs.

This week’s free permit goes to Russell Morgan of Milton.
