The past four weeks, as one would expect for the month of June has really proved a tester the prowess of all anglers visiting Llys-y-Fran Reservoir, whether fishing Ledgered Worm or Fly. Whilst the number of limit bags being taken remains high, some anglers especially those not fishing the Reservoir on a regular basis are struggling to find fish in numbers. Those anglers knowing the water have been able to capitalise on their knowledge and fish within or from areas known to hold fish due to general wind directions. This “insider knowledge” has certainly helped in raising the overall weekly average of fish being taken per angler visit to a more than respectable level on both of the methods allowed.

All anglers should note that an information board is available outside the shop displaying which areas have produced during the previous week for both bank and boat anglers. It also shows Fly anglers which lines and patterns could help from the returns being submitted. This is updated on a weekly basis.

The best bag landed during the reporting period by an angler fishing fly from the boat, was recorded by Newton Lee of Narbeth. Newton’s six fish including a best of 5lbs 3ozs totalled 17lbs 15ozs. Well done Newton. Paul Redding of Pontypool took a six fish haul of 17lbs, also whilst fishing fly from the boat with a best Rainbow of 5lbs.

Mr M Macphee also from Narbeth takes the honours for the best bag landed whilst fishing Ledgered Worm. His six fish including a best of only 4lbs 8ozs totalled 16lbs. Ray Muskett of Tenby, a new season permit holder for 2008, recorded two of the top three best bags for the week during June. These weighed 15lbs 9ozs and 13lbs 5ozs. Surprisingly Ray’s best fish on both occasions weighed in at 3lbs 1oz clearly indicating a decent average weight for the other fish caught on both occasions.

Despite some of the high winds experienced during the past month, anglers fishing Fly from the bank have achieved some very good results, with a high percentage of limit bags averaging in excess of 2lbs per fish. The two best recorded bags were G Evans of Llanelli with six fish for 13lbs 10zs and G Davies of Carmarthen with six fish for 14lbs 6ozs.

Honours for the month however must go to Ronnie Williams of Haverfordwest, another of our season permit holders who whilst fishing Ledgered Worm from the bank just north of the Boathouse, landed the heaviest fish so far for the 2008 season. This was a Rainbow Trout of 10lbs 1¼ozs, well don Ronnie.

This weeks free permit from all daily permits returned goes to William Lloyd of Broadhaven.
