October 2012

October as expected at Llys-y-Fran, with the season drawing to its conclusion, regularly proves to be a good month for anglers who visit the water. Whether fishing fly or ledgered worm.

Anglers fishing fly from the bank have been very successful in areas such as “The Field”, “Badgers” and the “Top End”, whilst using an assortment of lines from intermediate to D.I.7, with the majority of good bags being taken on intermediate and sink-tip lines. Successful patterns have included flies such as Diawl Bach, Olive Lures, black and green Montana, Viva, Boobies and Blobs.

Boat anglers are also doing well whilst fishing the “Top End” or “The Point”, with fish holding in numbers in these areas. With high water level being experienced all season, fish have remained within the upper reaches in these areas, offering good sport to all anglers.

Notable bags for those anglers fishing Fly from the bank over the past month include three  weekly best bags of 15lbs 10ozs, 19lbs 4ozs and 21lbs 12ozs, all taken by Brian Dalton of Haverfordwest.

Those opting to fish Fly from the boat have been consistently producing good six fish limits. Some of the best weekly bags are as follows:  A Rodriquez of Cardiff with six fish for 14lbs. Newton Lee of Clunderwen with six fish for 14lbs 8ozs, with a best fish of 4lbs, and Brian Dalton of Haverfordwest, with two bags, both weighing in at 18lbs 8ozs. Well done Brian

Anglers fishing Ledgered worm are also doing well within most areas. Bags of note are as follows: Peter Tatnell of Haverfordwest with six fish for 14lbs. John Morris of Narbeth with six fish for 15lbs. Gary Phillips of Tredegar with six for 15lbs 4ozs and M Jones of Cardiff with six fish for 17lbs 12ozs.

Llys-y-Fran will be open for winter fishing up to and including 16th December between 09.00 and 16.00. Anglers should note that the Café will be open daily during this period.
