July 2012 fishing report

Early July at Llys-y-Fran, saw a continuation of the sport that June had offered, with a high number of anglers taking limit bags on both fly and ledgered worm. Badgers, The Field and the Big Meadow once again proved popular areas for those opting to fish ledgered worm, whilst areas such as Top End, Rainbow Bay and Felindre Point also produced good results for those fishing fly from the bank. Those choosing to fish fly from the boat saw good top of the water sport on the calmer days throughout most areas of the Reservoir, but the long arm and top end once again proved to be the most productive area.

Good buzzer hatches were seen coming off the water during the calmer days with a number of different species noticeable. This kept fish feeding close to the surface during the first half of the month, enabling good catches for those fishing the more traditional patterns from both bank and boat.

Patterns during this period were varied, depending on weather conditions but intermediate lines with Damsels, Cats Whisker, Blobbs and black flies still predominated.

The last week to ten days of July saw a marked change both in weather conditions and numbers of fish being caught, with fish now starting to feed on the high numbers of pin fry available within the shallower areas

Notable bags for those fishing fly from the bank over the past month include M Jenkins of Uzmaston, with six fish for 12lbs 4ozs. Colin Roberts of Fishguard, with two six fish bags.
