Over the past few weeks anglers visiting Llys-y-Fran Reservoir have enjoyed some of the best sport seen during the 2007 season. Fine weather along with the abundance of food now available appears to have caused a marked rise in the overall bag weights now being recorded for those anglers catching six fish.
Fish can now be seen close in on all banks feeding heavily on the large numbers of Roach Fry presently holding in these areas. This feeding habit has also caused a large rise in the number of 5lbs plus fish being taken as the resident fish are now being held within casting distance for both ledgered Worm and Fly.

This level of sport was clearly made apparent on Saturday 29th September when young Daniel Howells of Bancyfelin, Carmarthen took six fish for over 15lbs on his first ever visit to the Reservoir. Daniel’s bag included a Rainbow Trout of over 6lbs, his last fish of the day. Well done young Daniel.

Gethin Griffiths, one of our long standing season permit holders recorded the best bag of the week for an angler fishing Ledgered Worm. His six fish bag which also included a best fish of 6lbs totalled 20lbs 8ozs. T Reimnitz of Swansea recorded the best bag of the week however, his bag taken whilst fishing Fly from the boat totalled 20lbs 8ozs but only included a best fish of 4lbs 12ozs, meaning his other five fish averaged 3lbs 3ozs each.

This week’s free permit from all day permit returns submitted is won by Carl Thomas of Swansea.

Winter Fishing at a cost of £11.50 per day with a bag limit of 6 fish will be available from 1st November until 16th December. Fishing will be from 09.30hrs until 16.00hrs with permits being available from Ranger staff on site. Boats will be available during this period.
