The past week has proved a continuation of the sport which has been on offer to most anglers visiting Llys-y-Fran Reservoir during the first three quarters of July immaterial of the method used. Anglers opting to fish Fly from the boat are finding fish in numbers throughout most areas of the Reservoir, whilst those fishing Fly from the bank are now taking fish regularly from the expected “hot spots”; “Velindre Point”, Badgers, Rainbow Bay and the majority of “The Field”, as would be expected, are the areas in which the majority of those opting to fish this method are now recording their best results.

The past seven days has also seen a continued increase in the number of fish of between 3lbs and 6lbs being taken, a high percentage of anglers are now recording at least one fish of this weight as a part of their six fish limit. Friday was a good example of this when A Jones of West Wickam in Kent recorded the heaviest bag of the week for an angler fishing Fly from the bank even though he was fishing on an “Afternoon” permit which limits the angler to a bag of four fish. His bag totalled 13lbs 7ozs for four fish and included two Rainbows, one of 5lbs 9ozs and a second of 5lbs 2ozs. Peter Phillips of Goodwick one of our own, recorded the best bag for an angler fishing Fly from the boat during the same period (and on the same day as A Jones), his six fish limit which included a best fish of 5lbs 8ozs totalled 18lbs, a good average fish weight for any water.

The best result of the week however has to be that of Bill Lloyd of Broad Haven during his last visit, Bill whilst fishing Ledgered Worm from the “Big Meadow” took six fish for 18lbs 4ozs, a bag which included two fish, one of 5lbs 8ozs and another of 4lbs 12ozs, well done Bill. The heaviest fish of the week however goes to Norman Hire of Swansea who landed a Rainbow Trout of 6lbs 8ozs whilst fishing Ledgered Worm.

This week’s free permit from the draw of all day permit returns, is won by Eddie Harries of Fishguard one of our regular visitors. Hope you enjoy your next visit Eddie.
