The prevailing weather conditions experienced prior to the last report have continued throughout the past week. Despite this things are still looking very good for anglers visiting Llys-y- Fran Reservoir. Both Ledgered Worm and Fly, the only methods permitted on this water, are still producing fish in numbers.

As we said last week, bright conditions with stiff northerly winds would normally force the fish deep. A second week of this would almost certainly remove any chance of taking fish in numbers from the upper reaches.

Happily we can report that this has not yet happened. Fish on Fly are still being taken, especially during the hours of 8am to 1pm, on dry and intermediate lines using traditional patterns such as Diawl Bach, small nymphs and olives. Anglers fishing Ledgered Worm although not picking fish up as fast as in previous weeks are managing to achieve good results once they have found the fish. Productive areas for the past week for boat anglers have been around the Dam Wall and “Point”, the Marshes and Top End. Those fishing from the bank are producing the best results along “The Field”, Badgers and the Big Meadow.

The past week has seen a marked increase in the number of fish being taken of four pounds and above. It also produced one of the best Browns of the 2006 season so far. A fish of 3lbs taken on Ledgered Worm by W Thomas of Llanelli.

The best bag taken during the past seven days by an angler fishing Fly from the boat once again goes to Mike Davies of the Carmarthen area who landed six fish for 16lbs 4ozs.
The best bag taken by a bank angler during the same period goes to Paddy Smiddy of Narbeth who took six fish using Ledgered Worm on Saturday 10th June. His bag of 16lbs 8ozs included a best fish of 4lbs.

The best fish of the week however has to go to Terry Page of Penparc Cardigan who yesterday landed 7lbs 13oz Rainbow Trout whilst fishing Fly from the boat. Well done Terry.
This week’s free permit from the draw of all day permits submitted during the past week goes to Peter Warren of Hakin Milford Haven.
