Warlingham & District Anglers’ Society are proud to announce that they will once again be promoting the Lower Thames Championship after a gap of over two decades. With the River Thames producing record breaking fish and providing excellent pleasure catches after years in the doldrums, match anglers have expressed an interest in once again returning to “natural waters”.

For organiser Warlingham & DAS it means a welcome return to match promotion on a venue that saw several sponsored competitions in the 1980s with San Miguel Lager in 1982/83 and Abbot Ale in 1984-86 being the partner.

dulley_logo_635259867.jpgThis year sees Dulley Ceilings & Partitions Ltd pumping in a very generous £3,000 into the event that takes place on Saturday, September 27, 2008, between Laleham and Molesey.

“We hope to see more than 150 anglers, including perhaps all five past champions turn back the clock and come and sample the river once again,” said Warlingham & DAS secretary Dave Harper. “We have a very nice HQ at the Thames Court Hotel with plenty of room to park and will have plenty of stewards to assist visiting anglers,” he added.
Chris Dulley, MD of Dulley Ceilings & Partitions said: “I have been a keen angler for quite a long time and through my company have supported various sporting events but saw this is a golden opportunity to support such an important event in the angling calendar. I am very pleased that the decision has been taken to revive this major competition as on its day the Thames can provide superb fishing.”

Provided the event sells out, the winner can expect to clear £1,200 with £1,000 for the runner up plus numerous other prizes including £50 every ten pegs. Entry will be just £20 all in with the draw taking place at 07.00 and fishing between 09.00 and 14.00. During the draw anglers will be able to see previously unseen film of events in the 1980s.
