Weekly Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area

Dennis Hunt and John Morris who were both made Life Members at last weeks AGM (in recognition for their many years of hard work for the club, congratulations to them both and much deserved) fished the Grand Union Canal at Grove over the Bank Holiday Weekend with Dennis catching bream of 4lb and 2.5lb along with a very large perch which was estimated to be over 3lb and may well have broken the club record had they not left their scales at home. The largest bream was caught on pole fished pellet whilst the perch and small bream fell to fluro pinkie.

Nearby Charlie Riddock targetted the carp and was rewarded with one of 9lb 14oz which he caught on a strawberry boilie.

As reported briefly last week the Hornchurch League 60 pegger (10 teams of 6 anglers) was fished on the canal between Stoke Hammond Lock and Broad Oak Bridge. Weights throughout were impressive for the time of year and there were no dry nets.

1st Paul Connell – Wickford Y – 37lb 11oz – 3 carp to 11lb and 12lb of skimmers all on worm
2nd John Coster – Bowlers – 32lb 3oz – 1 carp 13lb plus bream and skimmers to 4lb on corn and pellet
3rd Gary Foster – Oakwood N14 – 22lb 14oz – 2 carp for 15lb and bits on corn and micro pellet
4th Paul Witman – Oakwood N14 – 22lb 13.5oz – skimmers

If you would like a copy of all the section results from this match and the areas where they were pegged then send an A5 size sae (one standard 1st class stamp) to Steve Sharp, Press Officer, 96 Arncliffe Drive, Heelands, Milton Keynes, MK13 7LJ.

Mark Farrell was on North House Lake at the Wyboston Complex landing commons of 26lb & 16lb on S2t. Phil Lovesey was at the same venue and caught a superb 28lb 12oz common on a Heathrow Bait Services Supa Natural boilie.

Luton AC has invested over £20,000 in stocking and fisheries improvement work during 2009. This investment is ongoing and is reflected by the number of work parties taking place throughout March, April & May. Membership prices will remain unchanged for the coming season with all waters except the river sections remaining open for the full 12 months. It is hoped that the new Barretts Mere on the Tingrith Complex will be open for fishing on 1st June.
The next work party is over the weekend of 10th & 11th April at the Wyboston Complex repairing the track to the lakes and river. 20+ volunteers are required on each day and as machinery needs to be hired it is essential that those willing to attend register as soon as possible as lots of help is needed to get the track usable. Check the web site home page for work party details and registration form or contact Dave Edwards at the club office on 01582-728114 or Joanne Edwards on 01582-603466 or 07903048280. Remember you will not need to pay the £10 work party levy (adults and intermediates) when renewing your membership for next season if you attend just one of the work parties.

Browns Angling Centre in Leighton Buzzard have confirmed their Nash Open Day as being on Saturday 17th April 2010 incorporating the launch of the new Titan Bivvy. Iain Macmillan aka Ting Tong and other members of the Nash team will also be there. Browns open days are legendary as they invariably involve a whole pig roast and plenty to drink for those that aren’t driving.

Ive found the Bedfordshire Specimen Anglers free web site to be very informative and well worth signing up to if you fish waters in the Bedfordshire area. I notice that a number of Forum regulars are planning a day out to sample the Browns Angling Centre pig roast which I will also be attending!
