Weekly report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area sponsored by Starmer Baits and Five Star Baits

Memberships for the new season which runs from 1st June 2011 – 31st May 2012 are now available and can be purchased on line at www.lutonac.org or by post. Luton AC offers fantastic fishing for most species with Carp to 37lb+, Tench 8lb+, Bream 10lb+, Chub 7lb+, Zander 16lb+, Pike near 30lb, Perch 3lb+ and Roach and Rudd over 2lb. All of the clubs stillwaters including 12 miles of the Grand Union Canal are open all year round and a lot offer secure parking close to the venue. Unlike some clubs Luton AC do not charge a premium for night fishing or fishing between March and June. Money from subscriptions is continually being ploughed back into improving the fisheries for the benefit of its members through work parties throughout the year.

Mark Ridgeway landed the Lobe Tailed Common from North House Lake at 31lb 10oz which was part of a 17 fish catch in 48 hours which included commons of 28lb 6oz, 26lb 10oz, 23lb 2oz, 22lb 6oz and a 25lb 4oz mirror with the remainder being doubles. Glenn Millier also landed one of the large residents at North House in the shape of Pecs at a top weight of 31lb. Ollie Caress had a 20lb mirror, Skid had mirrors of 24lb 8oz, 21lb and 20lb plus a 13lb common, Robert Langdon commons of 26lb 4oz and 16lb 7oz along with a 5lb 2oz tench, Ian Betson a double figure common, Peter Singlehurst a 10lb 8oz linear, Mark Hodgson a 15lb 8oz common, Alex Slight a 16lb 4oz common and Alex’ dad a 4lb jack pike.

Mark Ridgeway – 31lb 10oz common

On the adjacent South Lagoon Steve Todd tempted a 20lb mirror, Wayne Jeeves a 16lb 8oz common and 9lb pike while ‘Ginger’ had bream of 7lb 8oz and 5lb.

Dave Hyne fished at Beckerings Reservoir for two commons of 12lb 10oz and 11lb 8oz. At the same venue Alan Simpson caught a 21lb 5oz common and his dad Dean Simpson a 19lb 5oz common.

Ian Mortimer continued his run of success on the Grand Union Canal with mirrors of 21lb 2oz and 20lb 4oz. Also on the canal day ticket anglers have been enjoying good sport at Slapton with 20lb bags of skimmers on pellet with the members area producing good nets of perch to 1lb 8oz on whip fished worm and double figure fish are coming out from the usual spots.

Our canal bailiffs/Board members carried out another night patrol and would like to remind any anglers setting up to fish the night that you MUST be a member of the club to fish at night on the GUC. There are also only certain stretches that can be fished after dark – see club book for details.

The Lavendon Mill work party was held on 30th April . Platforms were replaced in 2 swims, pathway and swim access strimmed on the lower section of the fishery plus both car parks strimmed and mowed .Thank you to the 9 members who attended  . The next work party is on Sunday 8th May at our River Great Ouse Biddenham fishery starting at 9am with everyone welcome to attend.
 
Mark Ridgeway won Aprils photo competition with his picture of the Lobe Tailed Common from North House Lake. CONGRATULATIONS to Mark!  Many thanks to the 30 entrants in April and there were some great pictures but sadly only one first prize can be awarded.
 
The winner of our May photo competition will receive 10kg of the new Starmer Baits Coconut Fish boilies. It is open to anyone (members and non members) submitting a digital photo taken on any Luton AC controlled water and it can be of absolutely anything eg a sunset on the canal, a nice fish, wildlife etc. The photos submitted cannot be over a month old, the judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the result. Five Star Baits who are based in South Bucks have two prizes of a 1kg bag of boilies to give away this month.
