10th August, 2009

I was informed this week of the sad death of David Bacon ex-Luton Committee, Match Secretary & General Secretary in the 80’s & 90’s following a long battle with cancer.
He was the driving force for Beacon AC for many years and was its Secretary for a long period. His funeral is on Tuesday 11th August at 15.30 at the Milton Keynes Crematorium and afterwards at the Toby Inn Carvery in Shenley Church End.

Luton ACs matchmen were in action at the Division 1 National this weekend held on the Staffordshire & Worcester Canal, the Shropshire Union Canal and the Trent & Mersey Canal. Unlike football there is no Premier League so the Division 1 is the highest there is. Luton were competing against many professional sides and came a fantastic joint 10th out of the 72 teams of ten anglers taking part which is their highest placed finish ever. Many congratulations to all concerned.

Luton AC Bailiff Mick Stringer from Flitwick and his son Dan Stringer from nearby Westoning continue to do well at the clubs Beckerings Reservoir near Flitwick with Dan catching a lovely looking 28lb 3oz mirror and Mick a 23lb mirror.

Also at Beckerings Luton AC Web Administrator Dave Murdoch from Luton beat his personal best for the second time in successive weekends landing a fish known as the Big Common at 28lb 5oz on an Innovate Kriller Killer Steamie. He followed this up with a 20lb common 3 hours later on a Squid 2t Steamie.

On the same venue canal bailiff Richard Whiteman caught a 6lb 4oz tench on one of Browns Angling Centres own dumbell boilies.

Shane WelchShane Welch and Gary Westcott have sent me some more pictures of recent captures from North House Lake with Shane having commons of 20lb & 20lb 8oz and Gary commons of 24lb 2oz and 23lb 8oz with all of the fish falling to Innovate Baits Squid 2t steamies.

At North House Lake on the Wyboston Complex David Starling caught a 24lb mirror and a 10lb common on Active Bait Solutions Enzyme Boilies – see pic below.

Bailiff Roger Simpson had a bream of 5lb and a mirror of 18lb.

The South Lagoon has been producing bream up to 10lb. Day ticket anglers have been catching carp of 5-6lb along with good sized roach and skimmers during the day.

Pike angler Carl Whiteman has had 12 pike ranging from 4lb to 14lb with most falling to an immitation mouse.

Woodlands Lake on the Tingrith complex continues to fish very well with the fish putting on weight. Steve Sharp did a short session and caught skimmers steadily plus 8 tench up to 5lb.
