Weekly Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area – 13th December, 2009

I joined the new Bedfordshire Specimen Anglers web site recently and have found this free site to be an ever growing wealth of information and well worth signing up to if you fish any waters in the Bedfordshire area. Visit the Bedfordshire Specimen Anglers web site at  www.bedfordshirespecimenanglers.co.uk

James Beardwell, aka ‘The Secret Angler’, has been doing very well on the Luton AC Beckerings Reservoir in recent weeks and when he contacted me earlier in the week he had notched up 30 carp in 8 day sessions and 2 nights along with at least the same number of bream. Whilst others have struggled on the water James has caught by being different and not fishing over beds of baits. His favourite tactic is to travel light and move onto showing fish. Bait has tended to be a Nutrabaits bottom bait with a stick of finely blended boilies. Slack lines and very light bobbins are again different from the bow string set ups that alot use and James says that he casts around very little to avoid spooking fish.

At North House Lake on the Wyboston Complex Ashley Phelan landed a 10lb common and Mick Gross caught an immaculate 13lb common on his first visit. There is a work party at North House Lake on Saturday 19th December 2009 commencing at 9am and the lake will be closed to anglers from Friday evening until Sunday morning. The closure is to allow work to progress on the otter fence and all volunteers would be most welcome to attend.

On the River Great Ouse at Lavendon Mill Dave Murdoch Snr and Fergal OKane found the fish feeding after the recent rain and both caught unseasonal tench to around 5lb using lobworm and paste as baits.

The Luton AC Winter Membership Package is now on sale and is valid until 31st May 2010. Through a water share arrangement with Barnet Angling Club Luton AC members may also fish several additional stretches (not listed in the membership book) of the River Great Ouse, River Ivel and River Thames, maps that show parking areas etc are available to download from the club web site or by sending a request with an A5 sae (large size stamp please) to the club office. These waters offer excellent fishing for barbel, tench, bream and carp.

Please phone/text your catch reports from Luton AC waters to 07704462635 or email catchreports@lutonac.org and  if you have pictures taken on your phone send picture messages to 07876331180. Remember to always use an unhooking mat when targetting specimen fish, keeping the fish as low to the ground as possible when taking photos.
