Weekly Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area

North House Lake has been in blistering form with Kevin Jefferies having commons of 25lb 8oz, 24lb 12oz, 24lb 11oz, 21lb 10oz, 17lb 4oz, 14lb 14oz, 11lb 15oz, and 11lb 12oz with mirrors of 21lb, 20lb 15oz, 19lb 15oz and 18lb all caught on Innovate S2t. At the same venue Ivan Sayer managed commons of 19lb 2oz and 15lb 11oz, M Hodgson a 19lb 12oz mirror, S Moore commons of 32lb 4oz and 14lb 2oz, Charlie Riddock mirrors of 17lb 10oz and 15lb 6oz, J Hansell commons of 17lb and 16lb 3oz, S Pink a 17lb 1oz common, S Sinclair a 20lb 8oz common, Alan Simpson an 11lb common and young Ollie Caress from Eaton Ford bagged The Wanderer at a spawned out 27lb 2oz during a short 4 hour session. Common CarpOn the adjacent South Lagoon Andy Smith got amongst the bream netting 87lb with fish to 12lb 9oz which would have beaten the club record if he had claimed it. Good bags of quality roach, tench and bream are being caught by most anglers on South Lagoon.

At Beckerings Ian Dilley has sent me some nice photos of a 20lb 8oz common and 19lb 8oz mirror that he caught using Innovate S2t over a bed of particles.

The Grand Union Canal is still fishing well, Michael Smith who was runner up in the recent Beckerings carp match banked 3 commons and a mirror to mid doubles using A2D Baits Spicy Crab and Mussel boilies. Mr Davies caught a 19.5lb mirror on the pole, Mr George an 11.5lb common and Mr Bonnet a 17lb mirror. Richard Noyes took 6lb of perch and roach in just a couple of hours fishing the waggler.

Woodlands Lake is the place if you want roach topping 2lb as they are being caught often enough to make them a realistic target for anyone fishing there. Unfortunately you will have to work out how to prevent the many carp, tench and bream from getting to your bait first.

On the nearby newly opened Barretts Mere its rudd a plenty with elastic stretching mirrors and commons plus a good head of nice crucians. Meat and corn are proving to be the best baits to use there.

Bury Lane Fishery is in fine form, Kevin Chadfield included a 22lb 14oz common along with ghosties to 7lb 8oz , 25-30 tench up to 5lb plus perch, roach and rudd. Luton AC Chairman David Edwards pole fished the same venue with his first fish being a common which took 15 minutes to land and took the scales round to 22lb 8oz. Two grains of corn on a size 10 barbless hook at 6m was the successful method. This water is a commercial fishery which normally costs £10 to fish but Luton AC members can fish it for just £5 with the added bonus that they can fish at any time during daylight hours whereas non members can only fish 9.30am to 5.30pm weekdays and Saturdays and 10.30am to 4.30pm Sundays. Accordingly it isn’t a heavily fished water but the quality of the fishing is excellent.

This investment is ongoing and is reflected by the number of work parties that took place throughout March, April & May. Membership prices will remain unchanged for the coming season with all waters except the river sections remaining open for the full 12 months.

Members can now use the fantastic new secure off road car park area created in May this year at the Great Ouse Lavendon. Access to the car park is via a locked gate using the club key with a further gate allowing access down to the river.

Out of the area CC Moore who sponsored the Beckerings Carp Match are holding an open day at The Carp Society Horseshoe Lake Lechlade Glos on Saturday 3rd July between 10am and 4pm. It should be a great event with lots of things going on, competitions, technical demonstrations, special offer prices, practical displays by CC Moore consultants (who will actually be fishing) and lots more.

Anglers like Alan Welch, Ben Hamilton, Kevin Wilson, Gaz Fareham, Phil Buckley, Mike Brown, Jake and Dan Wildbore, Myles Gibson, Adam Randall, Adam Smith and more will all be on hand to offer advice and techincal consultations on a number of angling methods whilst being able to demonstrate them as they fish. This will be a great opportunity for anglers of all ages and abilities to meet and interact with some of the most successful anglers in the industry in a way which is very rarely staged. Handouts will be given to visitors to enable them to get the most information possible out of the anglers they have in front of them. It should be a great learning experience for those who attend and represents a great opportunity to increase their knowledge of the latest methods and tips that have helped these anglers bank some of the most sought-after fish in the country.

Ian Moore of CC Moore will also be there, willing to answer any bait-related questions that relate to their range or other products they have experience of using in baits.
