Weekly Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area sponsored by Starmer Baits, Nash Bait & Nash TT

September’s photo competition winner will be announced in next week’s report, but you still have a few days to get your entries in. The winner will have the choice of 10kg of the new Starmer Baits Coconut Fish boilies or £50 worth of Nash IC-1 and Nash Terminal Tackle. It is open to anyone (members and non members) submitting a digital photo taken on any Luton AC controlled water and it can be of absolutely anything eg a sunset on the canal, a nice fish, wildlife etc. The photos submitted cannot be over a month old, the judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the result. So get snapping and forward your pictures to our usual email address – catchreports@lutonac.org – or send from your mobile to 07704462635.

Some of you may be aware that a major theft of equipment took place last weekend at Woodlands Lake (see separate statement from Fisheries Manager Dave Murdoch).

Top fish this week is the new club record common (subject to a claim and scales being verified) caught by Charlie Riddock from North House Lake at an impressive 37lb 4oz. The fish known as The Big Common was caught by Charlie during the day on Saturday and despite weeding itself for 10 minutes Charlie skilfully managed to coax it out. Charlie weighed the fish on two sets of scales settling for the lower of the two weights.

Phil Jacklins BivvieAt the South Lagoon Richard Cinato landed a mid double common and 20lb 4oz mirror. Ive received a picture of Ryan Jacobs 33lb 8oz mirror that he reported from the Lagoon a few weeks ago. Unfortunately Phil Jacklins trip to the South Lagoon was memorable for all the wrong reasons, I will let Phil recount his trip. “Having only been a member for 24hrs I thought I’d start by doing a two nighter on the South Lagoon. Whilst setting up on peg six in very very windy conditions I thought I’d better get my bivvie set up before the rain set in but unfortunately while doing this the wind picked up so strongly it ripped the bivvie out my hands while I was pegging it down. It went like a balloon launched up about 20 ft and landed in the lake. Oh dear I thought but first I must get a quick photo of this incident not that I really found it funny, after an hour trying to get it out the bailiff came to our rescue and helped us bring it in after many attempts of trying to hook it. The end result was one very poorly looking bivvie with poles snapped etc, so off it went to the tip in the back of the baliffs van, thank you so much. I was left wondering what to do when the bailiff came back and let me borrow a bivvie for two nights, I’d just like to thank the bailiff so much for being so thoughtful. Unfortunately I didnt catch any carp just 5 bream to 7.5lb.”
