Weekly Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area sponsored by Starmer Baits, Nash Bait & Nash TT

Fisheries Manager Dave Murdoch, accompanied by David Farmer & Chairman Dave Edwards, carried out an inspection of Beckerings Reservoir on Saturday 29th January 2011 to assess what work could be carried out by the Work Party planned for next Sunday, 6th February.

They unanimously agreed that the condition of over half of the circumference of the reservoir bank top surface would pose severe difficulties for members to attempt any meaningful work planned for the repair of Peg 17 and as a consequence the Work Party has been cancelled until later in the spring when it is hoped that the farm owners will have repaired the damage caused by their staff in carrying out the recent tree cutting operation. Much of the damaged area is severely rutted and extremely muddy and it was deemed that this would make it difficult in getting the necessay materials to the swim requiring attention.

Accordingly, the first scheduled workparty will be the canal litter pick on Sunday 20th February 2011 (not Saturday as it states in the membership book!!) meeting in the Tesco car park in Leighton Buzzard at 9am.

At Beckerings Reservoir water is now being pumped back in by the land owner. This annual event always triggers the carp into something of a feeding frenzy and this year is no exception with Michael Smith and his brother Danny sharing an 18 fish hit in one night. Michael managed 11 fish including a 20lb 5oz mirror, plus commons of 19lb 9oz and 17lb 3oz while Danny netted 7 commons to upper doubles. Successful bait for the duo was from the A2D Baits stable.
