22lb 4oz mirror carpSteven McInnes fished a double green lipped mussel bottom bait to the edge of a thick patch of weed at North House Lake and was rewarded with a chunky 22lb 4oz mirror. Peter Girdlestone banked a 24lb 12oz common, Jeremy Gribble a 21lb 10oz mirror, John Hansell an 18lb common and Simon Jackson a 20lb 8oz common.

Dave Jackson fished Beckerings Reservoir landing four commons to 22lb with son Simon Jackson having five with the largest being a 22lb mirror. Damian Edwards was at the same venue with son Lewis and his friend Joel Parish who was fishing the water for the first time. All caught with Damian having a 17lb 4oz mirror and two commons of 15lb and 12lb 8oz, Lewis three commons of 12lb 8oz, 11lb and 10lb with Joel having the largest fish of the trip a mirror of 21lb 4oz.

Dave Britton had a good day on the canal fishing just 1.7lb line and an 18 hook he landed 6 good sized bream plus skimmers followed by a 19lb common which took him half an hour to land and then to cap things off he tempted a rare canal chub of 3lb 2oz.

Also fishing the canal was Eric Brandham who latched into a 16lb common while fishing a light bomb rod. Unfortunately for Eric the carp smashed his landing net and pole which meant a trip to Browns in Leighton Buzzard for a £32 replacement, but despite the expense Eric was very pleased with his catch.

Further afield Carlo Borromeo has just returned from his fishing holiday at Dreamlakes in France where he caught a personal best 42lb 8oz mirror along with commons of 34lb 4oz, 28lb and 27lb. Carlo also latched into eight carp and two monster catfish which were lost in snags. Successful bait for Carlo was Starmer Coconut Fish which he won through this column and Mainline Cell.

There is a canoe race taking place on the Grand Union Canal on 23rd October 2011 between 10am & 2pm from the canoe launch area on Town South to Cooks Wharf at section 15 and back. Anglers are recommended to avoid that area of the canal as fishing will be severely disrupted due to the number of canoes, marshals and spectators.

Tons of Tackle has opened next to the snooker club at Admiral Place High Street North Dunstable. They sell fresh bait including maggots and worms and are offering a 10% discount for LAC members on production of your membership book. They are also open late on a Thursday.

Angling’s representative body, the Angling Trust, has launched a web site for anglers to record sightings of cormorants, goosanders and mergansers throughout the UK. The site is easy to use and will gather vital data to help persuade government of the need for action to protect fisheries. Visit www.cormorantwatch.org

Please phone/text your catch reports from Luton AC waters to 07704462635 or email catchreports@lutonac.org and if you have pictures taken on your phone send picture messages to 07704462635.
