2006 is a landmark year for our seas with a Marine Bill on the table, and much work is needed to support its introduction and delivery over the years to come.

The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) will be playing a key part in this, working with many to secure vitally important measures to protect marine life and better manage our seas as well as involving the public in practical conservation projects on the ground.

If you would like to help make a positive change for our seas, either individually or as part of a team from your workplace, you can join MCS staff and fellow supporters in taking the MCS Coastal Challenge 2006-07.  By combining the efforts of hundreds of people to walk, swim, or run a total of 18,470 km – the length of the UK’s beautiful and varied coastline – we hope to raise £50,000 by Easter 2007. It’s fun, it’s healthy and every step taken will be another step towards the recovery of our seas.

Whether you want to take a sponsored coast-to-coast challenge, walk your favourite stretch of coastline, add up miles on the treadmill or in the pool, or nominate the Marine Conservation Society as your charity for the year for your regular fundraisers, please let us know.

In fact it’s so easy and such a great opportunity for a team challenge for a good cause, that MCS staff and supporters are already doing it themselves, taking part in events in May www.justgiving.com/mcstriathlon July www.justgiving .com/mcslancs5peaks, and August www.justgiving.com/jean-luc
