Fishing Adventures Thailand inform us that one of their guests netted a monster Mekong giant catfish just this morning. UK angler James Heighes, 25, from Petersfield, Hampshire who is mainly into carp fishing in his home country bagged the huge fish after he booked Fishing Adventures Thailand for a single days fishing, which turned out to be a day he’ll never forget!

James hooked up and landed a 154lb (70 kg) Mekong giant catfish after having fought it for an hour and a half. Unfortunately, his catch cannot qualify for a IGFA world record even though it was much larger than the current 63 kg IGFA All Tackle world record. The unstoppable giant catfish succeeded to entangle James’ line around structures three times during the battle. Rules were broken as the guide had to swim and touch rod, reel, and line to help free the snagged line so the catch could be secured. No matter though, James looks happy enough with his catch of a lifetime.
