News Release

South East Water is to sell Chilham Estate, including Mid Kent Fisheries, in Chilham, Kent.

The complex, which comprises a number of fishing lakes, residential properties and a Mill will be placed on the market in November.

Paul Seeley, Asset Director, said: “Our business has changed substantially since we first acquired Mid Kent Fisheries nearly 20 years ago.

“The most recent major change – the merger between South East Water and Mid Kent Water – has led us to look at what are the key activities of our business and what matters most to our customers.

“We believe that is treating and supplying those 2.1 million customers with top quality drinking water, which is an important public service we undertake.

“Mid Kent Fisheries continues to thrive as a successful fishery, thanks to the hard work of our staff. But we believe it will have further, future success if it is owned by someone who has fishing at the heart of their business.”

The Company is now working closely with staff that run the fishery to discuss future options, including a management buy out of Mid Kent Fisheries.

Mid Kent Fisheries provides some of the best coarse fishing available in the South East, together with the only chalk stream brown trout fishing in Kent. It was also home to Two Tone, a mirror carp weighing 67lb 14oz, which was thought to be one of the UK’s biggest freshwater fish, but who sadly died of old age in August, 2010.
