Fishing experts and coaches sponsored by the Environment Agency will be out and about next week in a bid to encourage more people to give fishing a go.

As part of National Fishing Week, which runs from 21 – 29 July, fisheries officers from across the region will be attending organised fishing events that offer anyone who fancies a go at angling the chance to try it for free.
All disciplines within the sport are covered, including game, sea and coarse angling.

National Fishing Week is an annual event which aims to encourage anyone who has never fished before to have a go. During the week there are hundreds of free events across the UK with many special events for young people, the retired and the disabled. This year national fishing week is also launching a Ladies’ Day in a bid to get more women involved in the sport.

Environment Agency has sponsored or will be attending the following events:

24 July        Stanwick Lakes Fisheries        Junior Taster Day

24-24 July     Homestead Lake, Immingham    Get Hooked on Fishing module 1 (ages 10-19)

27 July        Homestead Lake, Immingham    Taster Session (ages 10-19)

28 July        Homestead Lake, Immingham    Taster session (ages 10 –19)

Gordon Howes of the Environment Agency said: ‘ Angling is one of the most relaxing and environmentally friendly pastimes you can get involved in, and National Fishing Week is a great way of getting people who haven’t considered fishing before to give it a try.

‘The Environment Agency invests around £300,000 every year improving facilities for anglers across the region, so it’s great for us to see new people enjoying the sport.’
