Shrewsbury offers coarse fishing to visitors – NEWS RELEASE

Visitors to a five star caravan holiday home and touring park in glorious parkland on the fringe of Shropshire’s county town of Shrewsbury can now do a spot of fishing during their stay.

Shropshire Anglers Federation (SAF) has taken over the fishing rights for Oxon Pool, which opened to anglers in December. The pool, which adjoins Oxon Pool Holiday Home Park and Oxon Touring Park, is stocked with perch, bream, carp, roach and rudd, with pike to specimen proportions.

The pool is available to fish to any full SAF season permit holder who must also purchase an additional day permit at a cost of £4. Owners and visitors to the caravan parks, who wish to fish in the pool, can now purchase a day ticket for £7, which includes SAF day membership, from the park reception.

The pool is a designated nature site and both walkers and anglers are welcome to visit.

Oxon PoolEdward Goddard, managing director of Shrewsbury-based Morris Leisure, which owns the caravan parks, welcomed the improvement work carried out by SAF at Oxon Pool.

“Holiday home owners on the park as well as visiting touring caravan and motorhome owners will be delighted to have the opportunity to fish in the improved Oxon Pool in the new year,” he said. “It’s another good reason to own a holiday home here or to visit the touring park.

“We look forward to welcoming many anglers who would like to combine their fishing with an overnight stay on the park. We also have some great deals on offer for quality caravan holiday homes on the park.”

“Shrewsbury offers a perfect base to establish a second home, which can be used for weekends, short breaks or regular refreshing holidays. Apart from being on the edge of the town, the park is also well placed for those wishing to explore the rural delights of Shropshire and the Welsh Marches.

“Our existing holiday home owners tell us they enjoy the tranquil views across the lake with its abundant wildlife, bird watching from our own bird hide and relaxing walks in the grounds.”

The park takes full advantage of its attractive countryside setting yet is conveniently located close to Shrewsbury town centre and the road network to Mid and North Wales.

Many existing owners abandon their cars when staying on the park, as an excellent Park and Ride bus service is available to transport them to the town centre, with its range of major stores, independent shops, pubs and restaurants.
