Paul Torday, best-selling author of Salmon fishing in the Yemen, will speak at the gala dinner of the Institute of Fisheries Management’s annual conference on Wednesday 15 October 2008.

The conference, to be held at the Royal Armouries in Leeds between 14th and 16th October, will be attended by more than 150 fisheries professionals – from fishery owners, to Environment Agency fisheries officers.

Ian Dolben, Chairman of the Institute said: “This is a great opportunity for people who are interested in fish and fishing to hear about ground-breaking projects and to network.”

Delegates will travel from as far afield as America to attend the conference, which this year is themed ‘breaking down barriers’.

They will hear talks about physical barriers such as weirs and the benefits of installing fish passes, barriers to taking up fishing, barriers to communication and barriers to fish health.

Delegates will also be given the chance to sample trout and coarse fishing in the region, visit Fairburn Ings near Castleford, or take a tour of fish passes in West Yorkshire.

The conference, sponsored by Yorkshire Water, the Environment Agency, Arup and APEM, is the 39th the IFM has organised, and is the first time it has been hosted in Leeds.
