Raise money for the British Red Cross on your way

A fabulous fly-fishing trip in Iceland is up for grabs at the British Red Cross’ London Ball on 16 November.

This is a great opportunity to spend an unforgettable thirteen-days exploring all the wonders of Iceland, the ‘Land of Fire & Ice’. The British Red Cross’ award-winning annual London Ball, one of the most glamorous charity events of the year, takes place on Thursday, 16th November 2006. This year’s theme is “The Secret Garden” and guests will be treated to a magical party in an enchanted woodland setting. Together with headline sponsors Bartercard plc, the Red Cross London Ball will provide a glittering start to the Christmas party season at The Room by the River on the Southbank.

Environmentalist Zac Goldsmith will be presenting the keynote speech, discussing how environmental change will impact the work of humanitarian aid agencies. World-renowned acapella and gospel singer Gena West, discovered by Nina Simone, will entertain guests with classic tracks from the 60s and 70s through to the present day. Celebrity guests will include Jemma Kidd, Ian Wright, Teddy Sheringham and Danielle Lloyd, Miss Great Britain 2006, with further names confirmed nearer to the time.

DNA productions, led by Matt James, who works with celebrity clients including Elton John and Stella McCartney, will again produce the glamorous event. The night will start with a cocktail reception in a Winter Garden, followed by dinner by moonlight in the tree-decked Secret Garden. Guests will enjoy themed food with seasonal fruits and vegetables by Rhubarb Catering. Ivan the Terrible Vodka has created bespoke, sumptuous cocktails, inspired by nature’s fruits and flowers.

The 2005 Red Cross Ball, entitled H20 – The Element of Life, recently won four awards at the Events Awards 2006, including the prestigious Event Award for Best Live Event Activity, topping competitors such as The Commonwealth Games, 02 and Unilever. The 2005 Ball has also been short-listed as a finalist for ‘Party of the Year’ at the Eventia Corporate Event Awards, to be held in November.

Last year’s London Ball raised £670,000 for the Red Cross. Celebrity guests attending included Christina Estrada Juffali, Ian Wright, Tamara Mellon, Tamara Beckwith, Caprice, Konnie Huq, Richard Bacon, Flavio Briattore and Michael Burke. All money raised by the London Ball 2006 will fund the essential lifesaving work of the British Red Cross in the UK and around the world, which this year has included relief efforts for the Middle East Crisis, the Indonesian earthquake and ongoing HIV and AIDS work in Africa.
