FISHING REPORT TO 12TH APRIL 2009

The first full week’s fishing at this new fly and coarse fishery near Stafford provided excellent sport in favourable spring weather.

Coarse Fishing
With the water warming and more anglers’ bait going into the Old Pool, the quality common and mirror carp together with big bream came on the feed.

Terry Mountford from Biddulph fished peg 20 with red maggot on the waggler taking a bag of carp and bream estimated at 100lb.

The largest of the bream takes was a 9lb fish to Adele Walsh. Fishing reporter Tony Keeling of Stafford fishing the pole took a mixed bag weighing 50lb from peg 1.

Fly Fishing
Both the Swan Neck and Railway Pool have produced excellent sport with quality, hard fighting rainbows. Best individual fish was caught by England Youth  rod Dom Sheratte from Macclesfield. Dom’s 10lb fish (a personal best) was part of a 20 fish catch taken on fritz damsels. Chris and Linda Ector from the Potteries enjoyed great sport on both fly pools, catching fish up to 9lb.

Catches of around 20 fish to individual anglers were recorded most days. As the fish become acclimatised a more imitative approach is paying dividends with anglers matching the hatch.

The fish in the Railway Pool have been taking sticklebacks present in huge numbers. A few anglers fishing fry patterns have caught surprise pike!

Fishery Owner  Phil Dixon said "I am pleased how well the lakes are fishing, and will try to ensure that all anglers enjoy a memorable trip here at Seighford. Thanks to all of my long-standing customers from Foremark who have visited me and caught so many big, quality rainbows".
