Fishing in Staffordshire

Report by Phil Nixon, Managing Director of Seighford Lakes

Fishing has been superb this week with so many quality fish coming out. Nymphes have been the way forward this week with Nick Dunn from Holmes Chapel showing the way taking 19 fish on a varity of Diawl Bachs and Crunchers. Nick fished a floating line with a 12ft leader static to tempt the fish.

Anglers have started to catch fish on dries even this early in the year with small CDC’S and Kilkhammers being the best patterns. When fishing with the smaller flies use lighter Fluro to give them more movement and the results will be alot better for you.

Fish are still coming out on lures with Matt Wall taking 10 fish off the Swan Neck pool using a slow sinking line and pulling the large Apps Bloodworm. Damsels and white/green fritzes will also catch you fish.

A stocking will be going into both lakes again this week to keep the fishing as good as its been. Remember both trout lakes will be closed this Saturday the 10th March for the heat of Iain Barrs new competion, there are still 2 places left so if your are intrested contact the lodge 01785 282967, or just turn up on the morning of the match. The match will start at 9am and finish at 3.30pm anglers are more than welcome to fish after.

Tight Lines.
