Trout & coarse fishing in Staffordshire

Report by Phil Dixon

Trout fishing has been fantastic the past few weeks on both pools at Seighford Lakes, regular stockings have been going in and they have been feeding hard with the mild weather.  There has been 6 doubles out this week which is great for the anglers and lots of rainbows around the 5 to 6lb mark have also been caught.

Coppenhall club held their first match this year,  24 people fished to a 3 fish limit and boy they had a great day.  Every angler apart from 2 caught fish and lots weighed in with 3 fish and some of the fish were magnificent.  Neil Gregory won the match weighing in 3 fish for 18lb 10ozs a fantastic bag of fish.  Neil caught all his fish off the railway pool on an intermediate line and a Olive Damsel Ian Buckley from Crewe caught the best rainbow of the day and finished up in 2nd place,  Ian got off to a great start by landing a fine rainbow of 11lb 8ozs on a black and green lure off the swan neck pool, Ian finished off on 18lb 2oz Ron Ayres took 3rd weighing 15lb 2ozs.

A variety of flies have been working a lot of fish have been coming out to lures fished slow on floating lines,  Later on in the day smaller flies have been taking the fish small buzzers and Diawl Bach’s or if you like fishing the Indicator then a egg fly has been the hot fly this week.
Hopefully See you up here soon. Tight Lines!
