Fishery report for week ending 13th May, 2012 by Anne Mary Woodcock

Despite more mixed weather conditions this week, the lakes welcomed 88 visiting anglers who all enjoyed some challenging yet exciting sport on the fly. The average catch rates this week is 4.45 fish per angler.

All lakes have continued to fish well, with top returns coming from our senior anglers. Mr. G Wharton took 6 hours to catch his 15 fish limit on sunday in challenging fishing conditions. We asked the secret of his full bag, he’s using shuttlecocks (see photo!). Mr S. Coverdale 14 fish, Mr. P. Emerson 12 fish and Mr. T. Ross with 11 fish.

Witton Castle LakesBiggest rainbow of the week came off West Lake at 10lb from Mr. E. Carmichael who used a black buzzer.

With fish at the surface or just below, the top four performing flies this week are; Black /olive buzzers, CDC Shuttlecocks and Grey Dusters.

Junior anglers Jack Watson, Thomas McKim and Ben Morris had another days great days sport with 14 fish. Junior event Saturday 19th May, we are pleased to announce competition angler and celebrity fly dresser Paul Little will be coaching on all junior sessions this season.

The bait lake has been busy with juniors trying fishing for the first time. Joseph Kane, Connor Peart and Master Cannach all enjoyed a good days fishing with an average of 2 fish each at 2lb.

Ladies events start this Saturday 19th May. Any ladies interested in fishing for the first time or wishing to improve their angling skills contact the fishery offices to book a place.

Northern heat of Greys TEFF National Bank championships will be held at Witton Castle Lakes Sunday 1st July. To book your place please contact the fishery officers.

The tagged fish still remains uncaught and the prize total stands at £180
