Bench bags barbel brace!

Shakespeare’s Tony Bench set his stall out for barbel on unfancied Peg 15 bait-droppering in over two pints of maggots and 1.5 pints of caster at 13 metres under a 4g rig and used lobworm on a size 12 hook.  The first bite after three hours resulted in a 10lb barbel, soon followed by a smaller 6lb specimen and two decent eels for 18-3-0 and a clear victory.

Talk of the match, though, was Steve Toone’s (Mill Tackle) 9lb plus barbel from his 14 foot deep swim on Peg 72. Eels and perch completed an 11-10-0 haul that just goes to show to expect the unexpected on this diverse river stretch.  Continuing his remarkable run, Quorn’s Rich Reynolds took 8-2-0 of hemp and tare caught roach at Peg 50. Another in form angler, Tony Marshall (Quorn) took fourth spot with 7-0-0 of hemp roach at Peg 24.

Qualifiers: Tony Bench, John Curtis, Steve Toone
