A new Director is being welcomed at Eden Rivers Trust, the conservation charity based in Penrith which aims to conserve the River Eden, its tributaries and their wealth of wildlife.

Simon Johnson joins them from the Wild Trout Trust where he has been the Director for the last six years.  At the Wild Trout Trust he was responsible for the impressive growth of that organisation, delivering effective conservation and education projects related to wild trout throughout mainland Britain and Northern Ireland, as well as displaying impressive fund-raising skills.

Nick Lloyd, Chairman of the Trustees of Eden Rivers Trust, said, “We are delighted that Simon Johnson is joining us because he will be a great asset to the Trust.  He brings a wealth of relevant knowledge and experience, with an infectious enthusiasm which will inspire all that meet him”.

Simon JohnsonSimon replaces Maggie Robinson, who has moved to Natural England in Kendal as their Freshwater Specialist.  All those within and outside of the Eden Rivers Trust were very sad to see Maggie go but wish her well in her new role.  The Trust has benefited enormously from her expertise, energy and organisation over the last two years, and she has left it stronger than ever before.

Simon Johnson, Director of Eden Rivers Trust said, “I was inspired, excited and daunted by the comprehensive induction I received from Maggie prior to her departure.   During this induction I learnt about many of the amazing projects and achievements Eden Rivers Trust has delivered in just twelve short years. As the new boy I have much to learn – the daunting bit!  However, I am really looking forward to my new role and the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”

Simon is in the process of moving to the Eden Valley from Driffield in East Yorkshire with his wife and family.
