A top all-round angler is calling on others with a passion for fishing to help the police trace thousands of pounds worth of equipment stolen from his Nottinghamshire home.
A collection of top of the range tackle, including rods, reels, nets and more than 2,000 wet and dry flies, were taken from the house in Crescent Road, Selston, last month.
The burglary took place some time between 1.20pm and 6.15pm on Friday 14 October. Also stolen was a fully-stocked Fox tackle box, holdalls and kit bags.
Among the most treasured possessions taken were two fly fishing rods made by Sharpe’s of Aberdeen and three Free Spirit branded carp rods.
Owner Chad Critchley said: “It has taken years and thousands of pounds to put together this collection of equipment. Aside from the cost and the time invested in it, other anglers will know there are also fond memories attached to each rod.
“It may be that whoever stole the kit knew that I had it or had perhaps seen me unload it from my car and got lucky. So far my own enquiries and those of the police have not traced the offenders or the equipment, but I would be very surprised if someone is not trying to sell this kit on.
“My message to fellow anglers is that if you have been offered or hear of anyone else being offered angling equipment that you suspect may be stolen, please contact the police immediately. I would also urge them to take particular care when transferring their own kit from the car to the house and vice versa, and ensure they do it either undercover or be aware of anyone who may be watching at the time.”
A Chris Boardman CB mountain bike and electrical items were also stolen in the burglary.
