Wellsfield Trout Fishery

Another great week for top of the water fly fishing and bait fishing.  Over 400 trout were caught over the course of the week.  Many anglers were rewarded with bag limits and plenty of fish were being caught in all three ponds, using the correct methods, to suit weather conditions. Floating lines with 5ft sink tips or slow glass intermediate lines proved most successful.  Those fly fishing for brown trout have done really well using Hoppers and Buzzers catching many up to 5lb.  Rainbows, Blues also featured.

Best flies: Hoppers, Diawl Bach, Buzzers, Traditional Wet Flies.  Best Baits: Maggots, Worms, Mepps Spinners.

Mr S Wilkie (Falkirk) caught fish of the week – a 13lb Rainbow Trout. J McLarn (Cumbernauld)  caught a 12lb rainbow trout (see photo below).
