The heat is on

Winnerweb News Release

The opening heats of the Winnerweb Challenge got underway during the final two weekends of May 2009 with heats at Blithfield, Stocks and Elinor, and the heat played a big part in the proceedings.  Hywel Morgan was on hand at each of the events to cast a watchful eye over the competition and offer some last minute hints and tips for the contestants.

With exceptionally sunny weather over each of the three heats, coupled with prevailing south easterly winds there was a concern that the weather might impact the fishing; but not so at Stocks for Bob Fitzpatrick who landed an 11lb 9oz rainbow trout to land the biggest fish prize.  Bob also went on to win his heat, with Andrew Grabham and Derek Moore placing 2nd and 3rd respectively. With £300 cash to the winner and £10 per pound for the biggest fish it certainly was Bob’s day, but followed closely behind by Derek Moore who also won the ‘Spot the Fish’ competition and his entry fee back as well as a place in the final.

Though the catch was smaller at Blithfield the competition was no less fierce with Dennis Coultas bagging the £300 prize just ahead of Kenneth Saunders with Martin Introna coming in third.   Martin also landed the largest fish on the day.

Another sunny day at Elinor brought the crowds out, but didn’t deter from a great day’s fishing.  The biggest catch of the day went to Brian Simmons for his 4lb 8oz rainbow trout, but Brian was denied first place by Mark Postles whose catch pushed Brian into second place.  Third place was taken by Scott Simmons and Malcolm Randle scooped the spot the fish competition prize, winning not only his entry fee back but also earning a place in the final for a chance to land £2000 cash.

The final of the Winnerweb Challenge will be held at Toft Newton on the 4th July, 2009 from 2pm – 8pm and promises to be an exciting climax to this year’s inaugural toe in the water for Winnerweb the online lifestyle competition company.
