NEWS RELEASE

What a year for the World Carp Classic. Yet again, for the 3rd successive year, records have been broken and new benchmarks have been set. In a tight battle for the honours, George Csonka and John Roberts of England claimed their place as the 2010 World Carp Classic Champions, catching an impressive 19 fish for a total weight of 216.2 kg.  The English pair were pushed very hard by second placed Miroslav Poupa and Pavel Kratky from Czech Republic, who had led the field from the start but then tailed off slightly in the closing stages to end with 161.1kg.  “I feel absolutely shattered. We have had virtually no sleep for several nights but it’s all worth it. I don’t think that it has sunken in yet,” said Csonka

Meanwhile, a titanic struggle was taking place behind the leaders in an even closer battle for third place, which, ultimately, Garry Wright and Tony Stray of England snatched from the grasp of Mikulas Elek and Pavel Snevajs from Slovakia with a last night fish of 18.7kg. Mikulas and Pavel could at least console themselves by winning the Berkley section and claiming the biggest fish of the event, a superb 27.4kg mirror. Gary and Tony ended with 100.6 kg from only 6 fish, and Mikulas and Pavel ended on 98kg also from 6 fish, a mere 2.6kg behind the English pair.

Team RenmarIn another race for the finish the team event was won by Team Renmar from Lithuania with a total weight of 167.7kg. They were followed very closely by Team Mikbaits from Czech Republic who, like team members Miroslav Poupa and Pavel Kratky in the pairs results, just missed out on first place by 6.6 kg with 161.1kg. The only pair in their team who caught. Third place went to English team Premier Baits with a weight of 116.5kg.

260 anglers representing 29 countries were on-site at the magnificent Lac De Madine for the 5 night and 6 day marathon event with fantastic carp being caught up to 27.4kg (60.4lbs). Equally impressive were the competition stats; of the 169 carp caught weighing a total of 2,106.3kg, 72 were over 30lbs, 30 were over 40lb, 7 were over 50lbs and one 60lb carp.

“To have had so many big carp caught in lots of the unwanted pegs really turned the event on it’s head. Many of the pegs that produced the larger fish were put back several times in the peg draw. It’s great to see so many different countries participating and I am pleased to announce that there will be even more next year and more countries will hold qualifying events. We will be back at Madine for 2011 and the dates for the event are the 4th – 10th September. It has been a great event this year and our title sponsor, JRC, have confirmed that they are extending the existing sponsorship agreement for at least a further two years, given the events continued success ” said Ross Honey, Event Founder.
