The National Angling Alliance Acts To Protect Anglers |
|
The National Angling Alliance is publishing a Briefing for anglers setting out information on how to counter anti-angling activities. There has been a lot of speculation in the press and broadcasting media recently about what might happen to angling if hunting is banned. This has been embellished by some wild and inaccurate statements about supposed cruelty in angling, and anti-angling groups have been trying to rack up pressure. The National Angling Alliance has produced a Briefing giving sensible advice to anglers about what to do in the unlikely event that they encounter disruption or intimidation, as well as information on how to deal with media coverage. It is available to anybody who wants a copy. The Alliance is backing this up with a system for co-ordinating information about any incidents that might occur. Anti-angling activists comprise a tiny, ill-informed group which, in comparison to angling, makes little or no contribution to the well being of society or the environment. However, they can be very vociferous, and the NAA is not complacent about potential problems. The Alliance is therefore arranging a meeting with the Home Office to discuss how protection for angling can be enhanced to ensure that millions of anglers can continue to pursue their sport in peace.
