BRITISH DISABLED ANGLING ASSOCIATION
(Angling Link)
ELEVEN million disabled people will get a better point of contact and an
improved chance of finding information on how to go fishing, where to go and what to use,
as the former charity Angling Link becomes the British Disabled Angling Association.
Formed six years ago by Walsall wheelchair angler Terry Moseley, Angling
Link has become the organisation dedicated to promoting angling amongst disabled people,
increasing facilities for disabled people at fishing venues, and promoting awareness and
support from the non-disabled community for their disabled colleagues.
But now it is to go Nationwide under the new name of the British Disabled Angling
Association as membership soars over the 1,500 mark and daily enquiries are turned into
firm subscriptions.
The charity Angling Link was originally set up to help others in the coarse angling sector
and it rapidly gained interest from disability organisations across the world and became
an official registered charity in 1998.
The organisation has now become the top disability angling organisation in Europe and
caters for all tastes, Coarse, Sea, Carp, Game, Cat Fishing and so much more. The first
point of contact for anyone interested in the field of disability angling it now boasts a
growing membership of almost 1,500 disabled anglers.
The name Angling link was appropriate at the time, linking everyone and anyone to disabled
angling. As the increase in interest and the rapid growth so the need for a professional
and recognisable name across the World, and so the official title granted by the Charity
commission is now "The British Disabled Angling Association".
The name is self explanatory and will be recognised across the globe, Angling link will
still remain the working name, as thousands of disabled people have come to recognise the
original name from all parts of the globe, 10,000 hits on the web site in just 6 months
proves that this is a worthy and respected organisation.
The new organisation and name has been welcomed by Terry Moseley, who said, "I am
proud to be the founder of Angling link and look forward to The British Disabled Angling
Association making its mark on the world of angling, we now have the same stature as all
the other top disability sports such as Basketball & Marathon racing all of which have
the title British."
"I am sure that with the name depicting disability, angling & British it will
make life easier for those desperate to search out a helping hand in our sport of angling.
The future of disability angling is in our hands, the B.D.A.A will ensure that it makes
the changes that are so desperately needed in this field of angling."
Terry Moseley will now join a twelve strong Board of Trustees for the BDAA which also
includes Rick Keeley of Tarmac, Angling Journalist Peter Thompson, Gloucester Accountant
Judith Collins and West Midlands Angling Administrator Malcolm Kelly. |
