Effortless spring cleaning for your fishing boat

Most fishing vessels are maintained by their skippers to a very high standard; recreational angling or commercial, these craft must earn us a living. Over a period of time, wear and tear does take its toll and on many boats, especially the older ones such as My Way, slowly approaching her 30th birthday. More effort is required sometimes with things such as rust marks, deep scuffs or heavy dirt marks, from a season of angling abuse.

When I picked up the bottle of Fibreglass Hull Cleaner from Ensearch, I read with great interest the footer to the bottle label … “Effortlessly removes brown stains, dirt and rust marks”. There are so many products on that claim to be effortless! This was a bold claim and it was certainly going to come up against some intense testing aboard My Way, especially with us coming towards the end of another productive season afloat.

Ensearch Fibreglass Hull CleanerEnsearch’s Fibreglass Cleaner is non-abrasive and bio-degradable, so not only is it kind to the surfaces of your craft but also kind to the environment. This is a consideration we all have to take into account when using various cleaners that will discharge direct to the sea or inland waterways.

Following the instructions, using a soft brush, I applied the cleaner to three patches of rust and dirt. The instructions then states you simply wash off; no brushing or scouring required! The instructions go on to say that old rust marks or heavy staining may require contact with the product for several hours. With this in mind, and there being no set duration specified, I chose to leave the cleaner on for one hour, giving it a good chance to work.

On returning an hour later, it was immediately clear that the cleaner had done its job. I brushed off the residual cleaner and could no longer see the darkish red marks of rust runs down the soiled areas; in fact all three areas that required cleaning were now free of rust and dirt marks. To be honest, I was quite amazed!

I could go on further, but there really is nothing more to write than that, with the very minimal of effort, The Ensearch Fibreglass cleaner worked a treat and returned the three test patches to their former glory. The only downside is that I’m going to have to clean the rest of My Way now!

The Ensearch website has the 1-litre bottle listed at a price of £22.95, which is a small price to pay for an effortless mid-season clean around any boat and a bottle really does go a long way. Highly recommended.
