I was recently given a tip that a new tackle shop had opened its doors in the North West, so, as usual, I traipsed 40 miles up the motorway in the rain to find out more……….
‘Fishing 4 Reel’ is partly the result of rapid expansion for a bait company called ‘1Toners’ which grew too big for the Bolton based kitchen it began life in, and partly the brainchild of owners Stuart Marsden and Mick Leigh. Situated on Bolton Road in Kearsley, Bolton, the double fronted shop currently stocks ranges from Preston Innovations, Middy, Nash and a host of other recognised manufacturers. Stuart and his team wanted the shop to have something for all, so when I arrived, it was great to see the retail area being enlarged to accommodate all the new stock.
‘1Toners’ have been enjoying remarkable success, not just in the Bolton area, but steadily across the NW as news of the catches recorded on the baits they produce has started to spread. Engineered by experienced bait technician Mick Leigh, ‘1Toners’ baits all contain human grade elements and ingredients which have been tweaked to maximise attraction and are constantly reviewed to ensure they work to optimise the anglers chances of catching that fish of a lifetime. The bait range currently comprises seven different tempters, with boilies, pellets, glugs and pastes available in all flavours designed to work in harmony. Not content with selling the baits from the shop, the company have just agreed a fantastic deal to supply bait to the prestigious Four Seasons Fishery in Blackpool (www.fourseasonsfisheries.co.uk) and are in negotiations to supply more NW fisheries. All good stuff, but how about a bait delivery service direct to your peg?! It’s true! Within reason, ‘1Toners’ will deliver a telephone order of their bait 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, within a reasonable distance of their Bolton base! If you are running out of bait, and the fish are still ‘having it’, then what could be better??
‘Fishing4Reel’ has two spacious floors; on the ground floor is the general predator and coarse angling section containing all the things you need to get started, top up your tackle or try something new. The first floor (now being updated) will consist of a match/pole alley and a specimen hunter’s grotto which will include everything to assist the quest for big carp, barbel and catfish. The shop is clean, tidy and light. Unlike some other shops, you can see what you are buying, and advice is easily available from the experienced staff should be unsure of your needs. There is ample free parking at the rear of the building, so you can browse without fear of a parking ticket!! If you are lucky, you might even get a cup of tea, but don’t hold your breath for the biscuits………..
New items are arriving each week as new accounts are covered, so the range of products is set to increase as ‘Fishing4Reel’ stamps its mark on the Bolton retail sector.
