I arrived at the lake and the rain was nearly coming through the roof of my car! Looking at the sky I knew it wasn’t about to stop either. It had been raining hard for the past few days back home in Lancashire, but this was like being in the middle of a monsoon! With a hard but fairly warm south westerly chucking everything to one end of the lake, I raced round to peg 20, had a quick check, and have never set my bivvy up as quick in my life, but still got completely soaked through! As I sat there catching my breath and contemplating my sanity, up popped a good sized carp from the lake, rising to its gills and sinking back down again, closely followed by another lump clearing the water. All is forgotten. Good choice. Game on!

The last thing I wanted to do was start firing out markers and spods with the fish showing just 30 to 40 yards out, so I put all three rods out very quietly, each primed with Redeye Baits Salmon Noir on the hair, glugged and accompanied with little stockings full of the same but crushed boilie. Last rod out, satisfied everything was where it should be, I turned to my bivvy to start the search for dry clothing!

Bang! One of my rods rips off to a screamer and I can feel the solid thump of a pond pig trying to snap my rod! What a scrap! I had her to the net twice but she had other ideas and wasn’t ready for her photo opportunity just yet. Ten minutes later and third time lucky she was in and I knew straight away she was a good fish. She looked a right pig! The scales read 35.12lb. Result!

The next few hours were complete madness – seven fish in total. I could not keep all three rods in the water! I had four low doubles, a 24lb common, a 26 mirror and the 35.12lb mirror. I’m convinced I could have had more but for the relentless weather, they were all over my swim! By the early hours of the next morning the nearby river was bursting its banks and I had no choice but to make a hasty retreat before I ended up being washed back down the M62! It’s also not a pretty sight seeing some fat bald bloke land fish in his boxers and boots!

All fish were caught on my 3.5tc Century SP’s / Shimano Titaniums, using Atomic Tackle Jel-E-Wyre 25lb hooklink, Flat Pear leads and TAG System Grabba hooks size 6, all finished off with a Redeye Baits 18mm Salmon Noir boilie. I’ve fished this water many times now and have never heard of a result like this one, or ever had such an aggressive reaction from the fish to a bait. They were going mental for it! Top result lads, them Salmon Noir boilies are little black beauties! Keep up the good work.

Kind regards,

Knobber
