Like many anglers I try to stick to a routine before a session, which allows me to ready tackle, food, and bait, before setting out on my trip. In most cases this works well and rarely do I forget anything (although a week-long trip down to Oxfordshire springs to mind when I somehow managed to forget my rods!).

However, one thing I seem to forget time and time again is to re-charge my mobile before I leave the house. “Hurrah” I hear you shout, “one less irritating ring-tone on the bank!” though I should point out I always have mine on vibrate when I’m fishing (cue wise crack from Murphy).

I find a mobile to be invaluable when out fishing, not just for sending text messages at three in the morning when you’ve just banked the lake record, but also for security and peace of mind.

If I’m away for a couple of nights, my better half sleeps much easier knowing I’m only a phone call away, furthermore, as I regularly fish waters where you can go for days on end without seeing a soul, it’s heartening to know you could contact someone in an emergency.

As such, this hand held charger is a great way of ensuring you never run out of power. The unit itself is comparable in weight and size to most mobiles, so will fit nicely in your kit bag without taking up valuable space.

All you have to do is plug the wire into your phone, open the winding handle, and turn – it doesn’t get much easier!

You can get models to suit most ranges of; Nokia, Motorola, Ericsson, and Siemens handsets, and a minute or two’s winding will give you two hours standby.

I drained the power in my phone to test the charger, and after winding for just over a minute, I was able to make a call for around 5 minutes with no problems, and the phone held charge for nearly two hours before the low battery signal started bleeping again.

There’s not much more to say about the product, it’s simple and effective – just the way I like it!

Considering all the advantages this piece of kit gives you, I find the price tag of £9.99 to be excellent value for money.
