Welcome to another selection of tips and hints from Bob Nudd; the section of the site where Anglers Net visitors get the chance to put their ‘fishy’ questions to the four times World Champion;

Hi Bob,
How do I enter fishmania? I want to get in on the action but don’t know where to start! Please help!
Kind Regards Sam

Hi Sam,
I’m afraid you’re too late for this year; all the matches had to be booked on line before the end of February. Try and book early next year.
Bob Nudd.

Hello Bob,
Will you be going back to Cuddmore this year for the browning show?
From Dan, the kid who broke your disgorger!

Hi Dan,
Yes I remember you, I am not sure if we are having the event this year, watch the press for information.
Good fishing, Bob Nudd.

Hi Bob,
I FISH A LOCAL CANAL-THE TRENT AND MERSEY IN TUNSTALL (STOKE-ON-TRENT). I CANT SEEM TO GET A BITE. IV’E TRIED FISHING ON THE BOTTOM WITH A WIDE VARIETY OF BAITS INCLUDING MAGGOTS, CASTERS, CORN, PELLET, MEAT, ECT. I’VE TRIED ALL METHODS ACCESIBLE TO ME FOR INSTANCE FLOAT, LEDGER, FEEDER AND POLE. I’VE FISHED UP IN THE WATER WITH NO SUCCESS AND IVE EVEN TRIED CANAL GROUNDBAITS SO WHERE AM I GOING WRONG?

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME, TYLER BUCHANAN (AGED 13)

Hi Tyler,
Try using worms and maggots and fish on the bottom. Van Den Eynde Supermatch
is a great groundbait for winter canals.
Good fishing, Bob Nudd.

Hi Bob,
I am 13 and I don’t go fishing that often. I’m starting to get into it and I was not sure what baits were the best. There are chub, tench, and carp but at the lake you are not aloud to use bolies.
From Dan

Hi Dan,
Sweetcorn maggots and worms are all good baits for these fish.
Good fishing, Bob Nudd.

Hi Bob,
I’m thinking of going carp fishing on a local Stillwater. What would you recommend for catching carp on the bleepers I’m a beginner so hope to here your advice
Thanks, Stu

Hi Stu,
Try some hair rigged corn or meat.
Good fishing, Bob Nudd.

HELLO BOB.
I’M A MATCH FISHERMAN AND I WOULD LIKE TO ASK HOW MANY WORMS I SHOULD TAKE TO A MATCH.I NORMALLY FISH CHOPPED WORM ON ONE LINE ON A COMMERCIAL FISHERY.
MANY THANKS, MEL

Hi Mel
Between .25 and .5 kilo should be enough, a few casters or pellets mixed with them will make them go a bit further.
Good fishing, Bob Nudd.

Hi Bob,
When fishing a canal that you have never fished in summer (Basingstoke canal) what baits are the best to start slowly building your swim without putting to much of verity into an unknown Swim?
Thanks, Dean.

Hi Dean,
Bread punch down the middle for the roach, and then feed chopped worm and caster across for the tench and bream.
Good fishing, Bob nudd.

Hi Bob,
I am 13 and I have just fished Browning Cudmore Fisheries and had no luck all day. We fished Milo and the Suez Canal. I did everything I was supposed to do according to the magazines (dotted my float, 75% of the shot on the float base, fed little and often and fished on the bottom). Could you please tell me why I couldn’t catch? My bait was 1 pint of mixed maggots paired with sensas groundbait (for carp, tench and bream). PS – I recently bought a Leeda telescopic 5m whip and had it elasticated with no.6.What is the largest fish i would be able to land?
Yours respectfully, Tyler Buchanan

Hi Tyler,
I am not sure why you didn’t catch without seeing your equipment, Milo is the best pool, try to avoid Suez as it can be more difficult. Loose feed maggots or pellets and fish maggot or expander pellet on the hook.
Good fishing, Bob Nudd.

Hi Bob,
When pole fishing my local water, I hooked into a good size roach. This was then taken by a smallish pike, then that was taken by a pike about two foot long. My match top section snapped, but the pike cut through my hook link. Can you advise me on a set up to ovoid this situation without having to loose the pleasure of roach on a pole?

Hi,
Pike can always be a problem, and if you increase your tackle strength too much then you’ll not catch the roach. Try to get your roach out of the swim as quick as possible so the pike don’t have chance to take them.
Good luck, Bob Nudd.

Hi Bob,
I was just wondering what other poles sections would fit a browning black magic 2 I have broken my fourth section and I cannot find a tackle shop anywhere that stock the fourth section. Please can you help?

Hi Michael,
The number 4 section for a Black Magic 3 is the same, we have those in stock.
Best regards, Bob Nudd.

Hi Bob, just want to ask the best way to start off a swim baiting up wise when fishing for roach and rudd on the pole during the winter?
Many thanks, Matt Ilett

Hi Matt,
Cup in 2 balls of groundbait (Van Den Eynde Superlake) then loose feed over the top with caters or maggots.
Good fishing, Bob Nudd.
