Welcome to another selection of February tips and hints from Bob Nudd; the section of the site where Anglers Net visitors get the chance to put their ‘fishy’ questions to the four times World Champion;

Hi Bob,
I am 13 and I like to go course fishing, I only have basic equipment but I can’t seem to catch anything but perch. Could you give me some tips on how to catch other fish?

Thanks, Nick

Hi Nick,
You just have to learn more about how to catch fish, try reading the Angling magazines and watching a few introduction DVD’s.

Good luck, Bob Nudd.

Hi Bob,

I am new to pole fishing and have a Shimano technium 1250 pole to learn how to use them. I have damaged the no 4 section and need a replacement. I talked to a mate who claims that you can buy universal sections that will fit. Is this correct and if so where can I get them?

Cheers, Malcolm Nicholls

Hi Malcolm,

You will only get top three sections in universal kits, try your local dealer for a repair or replacement section.

Good luck, Bob Nudd.

Hi Bob,

I was wondering what the best bait to catch carp is and what set up do you use?

Thanks Bob

Hi,

Boilies are best for large carp, pellets and sweetcorn are very good for smaller fish, it would take a book to explain all the various set ups here so try reading some carp magazines or websites to find some basic rigs.

Good fishing, Bob Nudd.

Hi Bob,

At my local fishery in the summer there are about a dozen nice sized common and mirror carp surfacing the waters. I have seen a lot of anglers free lining floating dog biscuits and are catching a lot of carp, but when I try to do the same method I don’t seem to be able to cast out far enough to catch. Are there any type of floats or anything that I can use to help me get on among those carp??

Hope you can help, thanks, Craig

Hi Craig,

Use a bubble float which you can load with water, or a candle float which is made from candle wax and will float, both will give you the necessary casting weight.

Good fishing, Bob Nudd.

Hi Bob,

I have been fishing this winter and not caught much when do the carp start feeding more aggressively?

Many Thanks, James

Hi James,

As soon as the water begins to warm up, this will probably be late March or early April.

Good fishing, Bob Nudd.
