I’ve seen big pike together before when fishing. Part of me is convinced that one trio I saw were working as a team, as they appeared to surround a shoal of rudd I was catching.

However, another part of me still reckons pike aren’t actually clever enough to do that….or are just too darned aggressive to work with other pike!

This excellent footage from the Underwater Ireland YouTube channel makes me wonder if maybe they CAN be friends, though, as there are groups of pike here that are not only swimming together, but actually huddling up very close.

My theory is there’s only one thing on their minds….and it’s NOT FOOD! Spawning season must be a risky time of year if you’re a small male pike…

I’m not sure if they are the same pike in each group – maybe somebody else will work that out from the markings.

I wonder what would have happened if a lure had been dragged across the front of them? That could have turned into a bit of a bun-fight!
