Chance to see how the other type of fishermen live!

{Trawlermen often get a bit of stick from anglers, but the recent TV coverage over discards has highlighted that there are definitely some areas of common ground between both parties. The following press release was sent to me by a good friend in the publishing world and would be a great opportunity for somebody to experience a brief sample of the “as seen on TV” life of a deep sea fisherman – Ed}

EVER WANTED TO BE A TRAWLERMAN?

Then look no further! To celebrate the publication of ‘Trawlerman’, the autobiography of Jimmy Buchan, the star of the hit BBC TV series ‘Trawlermen’, The Hanbury Agency is teaming up with the Fishermen’s Mission, Jimmy and his publisher Little, Brown to offer a ‘money can’t buy’ experience to the public.

Jimmy’s book will be published on 2nd June, 2011, and to mark the occasion Jimmy and the other two skippers from the original Trawlermen series, James West and John Buchan, will be sailing Jimmy’s vessel, Amity II, down from Peterhead to London. The vessel will be moored in St Katharine Docks which sits in the shadow of the Tower of London, where she will be open for people to come and meet the skippers and to eat some freshly cooked langoustine on board.

TRAWLERMAN - Jimmy BuchanWe are offering you the once in a lifetime opportunity to join the skippers on board for one of the legs of the journey. The places will go to the highest bidders, with all proceeds going towards the work that The Fishermen’s Mission does in the UK’s beleaguered fishing communities.

We’re auctioning four berths, two for the outward, two for the inward voyages on ‘Giving Lots’ with the proceeds to the Fishermen’s Mission. The highest bidders will enjoy 60 hours of great fun, food (the freshest fish you’ve ever tasted!) and company. You’ll leave Peterhead on the evening of Sunday, 29th May, arriving into London on Wednesday, 1st June. The return voyage leaves St Katharine Docks on Saturday 4th June, arriving in Peterhead on Tuesday 7th.

Anyone wanting to bid for this unique auction lot, should go to www.givinglots.co.uk/news/beatrawlerman and help Jimmy and the Mission raise vital funds to provide emergency and welfare support to our fishermen and their families. For more information on the work of the Fishermen’s Mission please go to www.fishermensmission.org.uk. And if you’d like to know more about the voyage call 0800 634 1020.

Don’t delay, get bidding, and secure your place on Amity II! Bidding starts on the 14th March at 4.00pm and ends on Sunday May 1st, 2011, at 4.00pm Good luck.
