Lure fishing 3.10.11

A bright sunny day with reasonably high pressure, so I decided to leave the roach campaign and have a crack at lure fishing at dusk, on the basis that it might be the last good day for it this autumn. I went to a swim where, on a similar day 2 years ago, I had two high-double perch and a 5lb chub in 5 casts! NAA Stillwater - Thatcham   0630 - 0930   Warm despite clear skies. 15º - 20ºC   1 Crucian, 2lb 15oz. 1 Carp 5lb 7oz, a rudd (small!)   Mini campaign to get an autumn crucian meets with success!! Summer Pit - CEMEX Yateley Complex   1600 - 2330   Warm clear night - temps still 14ºC when I packed up.   1 Tench 3lb 3oz. A doz+ perch & 2 rudd.   This Indian Summer has persuaded me to have one last session here. The perch were really having the meat but switched off when it got dark. Tench on the stroke of 8 o'clock and 'bumped' another ½hr later - which proved to be the last bite of the session!

River Kennet hambridge 16.15-19.30   2 Barbel (4lb1 3lb7) and a chub (2lb10)   Another pleasant evening on the bank, fished the same swim as I have been for the last week, both Barbel on boilies the chub came after I kept getting quick jabs on the tip for around 20 minutes so I reeled in and changed my end tackle to a size 16 with just 2bb as weight and a whitefish paste pellet on the hook, cast just upstream of where my hookbait had been and let it bounce downstream and sure enough the ch

September 18th - Club Match 8 - Entire Farm

Entire Farm (Arrans Lake) is one of the commercial fisheries which has recently thrown up some huge match weights to over 500lbs. CARP SOUP!!   I have not fished at such a highly stocked fishery before and it wouldn't be everyones cup of tea but it is part of the club's match schedule so I gave it a go. Our match was split into a 2.5 Hr session followed by a weigh-in and then a 3 Hr session. Only 10 carp allowed per keepnet and any over 6lb had to be weighed, recorded and returned.   In

River Kennet newbury 16.30-20.00   6 barbel, 1 chub and a troot   Decided fishing was a far more attractive idea than the gym with the weather today! My guesstimation was way off the mark today, I put all the fish in the 1-2lb bracket apart from the last which was considerably smaller than the fish that came before it yet weighed 1lb14! Wish I had weighed the fish that came before it! All fish fell to ledgered boilies with a small pva bag of crushed boilie.

River Kennet - Newbury   1830 - 2330   Warm, still evening - really surprised to see the thermometer in the car down to 11ºC when I left as it felt MUCH warmer under the trees - quilted shirt and coat both remained 'unworn' all evening. Roach again 26.9.11

Went to the same swim as last week, a roach swim on the canalised river Kennet. Fished just over an hour at dusk, trotted bread. Air pressure a bit high so I wasn't too optimistic.   5 roach, mostly small, but one nice 14 oz fish. the best I have had from that stretch. Very pleased. Also one perch of about 6oz. I've had pike on bread before, but never perch!   I'm starting to get some confidence in using bread, ready for getting a monster when it gets colder! Though the good fish was caugh

22nd september

4pm-7.30pm river Kennet hambridge   A short unplanned trip for Barbel after work, I set up in a swim just downstream of a tree that crosses the water where it is fairly shallow with fast choppy water along the far bank with a slightly deeper slower flowing glide just downstream about 4 rod lengths out. Had a chub of around 1.5lb within ten minutes of casting out then had a proper wrap around on the tip at around 6pm but the hook pulled. With the weather looking good for tomorrow I shall be

Harris Lake - Marsh Farm Fishery - Nr Godalming   0700 - 1900   Bright but mainly overcast with some sunny intervals particularly around the middle of the day. Temps upto 17ºC. WT 16ºC. Angling in a corset 19 September 2011

My slipped disk has been a pain over the summer and I haven't done any fishing, but I got a support belt thing recently that helps a lot. River Kennet - Padworth   2015 - 0145   Cool & clear. Sunday 11th September, Sunday Morning Spinning

Well it's been a while since I posted a blog report up. Have been out and about fishing but as I have left it so long to write an entry I couldnt possibly remember everything that happened in order to make a good post   So this sunday gone I had an impromptu session with the new spinning rod. Alders Lake - Thatcham   0930 - 1330   Bright and Breezy. 17ºC   3 Bream - 3lb 4oz & 2 skimmers. 3 perch & 1doz+ rudd.   A short session to check up on the 'progress' of this lake which suffered a total fish kill 6 years ago. NAA Stillwater - Thatcham   0630 - 1100   Overcast, muggy and breezy. 17º -> 20ºC   4 Carp; 7lb & 3 ± 5½lb. 6 roach.   A morning spent mainly watching a stationary float - despite fishing single red maggot on a size 18. Was hoping for a crucian or two to put in an appearance but in the end was happy when a few muscular commons turned up. September 4th - Club Match 7 - Frogmore

I missed the last two club matches, the first due to being at the Stoney and Friends Charity Fish-in at Yateley blanking on The Pads lake and the second due to being on holiday in Cornwall with my wife. Whilst in Cornwall we did fish from Newlyn harbour wall on a couple of evenings, first evening Wife caught 3 - a Gar, a Mackerel and a small Pollock and for me - nothing! River Kennet, Saturday 3rd September 2011   Well I had to open my big mouth didn’t I.
