River Kennet - Thatcham

1200 -1400

Warm and breezy - large thunderstorm just missed me!

2 Chub; 3lb 12oz & 2lb 6oz. 5 Dace (all chunky ones!), 1 Roach.

One of the advantages of living in the Kennet valley is that within 30 mins of deciding on a quick trip between the showers you can be slipping the net under a 2lb chub! This was a quick trip to Rusty's 'surf float swim' and it's clear from the jungle I had to hack through to get to it that no one has been here since June. Smaller chub was first trot through and the larger one pretty much last cast - between some really nice dace and a half respectable roach.

Maybe I'll move house, it's at least an hour between me deciding to go [to that swim] and wetting a line. I did think about taking the petrol strimmer along for some fun but thought better of creating an obvious route.

Nice chub and some different sizes if my memory serves me correctly. How many different chub does your database record you've had from there Chris?

Ooh I like a challenge! Last winter (7/12 - 13/3) I had 12 chub from that swim. Sizes as follows...5.14, 5.12, 5.0, 4.13, 4.0, 3.14, 3.6, 3.6, 3.5, 2.10, 2.09, 2.07 and this summer 4 @ 4.14, 3.12, 2.15 & 2.06. Given that quite a few of those fish are within an ounce of each other - there may not be more than half a dozen chub in that swim - which probably explains why I've never caught more than 3 in a single visit!
