16 June (part 2)

River Kennet - Thatcham

1330 - 1600

Overcast, sunny spells, one brief shower (17ºC)

2 Chub - a 2lber and a chublet. 9 Dace, 2 Grayling (!), 3 Brownies - biggest 1½lb.

Note to self - arriving at said venue at lunchtime on 16th June is not the smartest plan to secure 1st choice trotting swim (or 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th choice for that matter - yes the place was pretty busy!). So no 1st day barbel on the pin - though a brace of surprise grayling was some compensation - both around 12oz - along way from home - many many years since I caught them this far down the Kennet - wonder if they have been stocked?

Chris sounds like you did all right even if it was not your 1st choice swim ,Do you think the grayling entering at Hambridge now have made there way downstream?? Steve.

I caught a couple of grayling from the footbridge area last summer Chris, would be nice if they establish themselves. Was the last but one upstream swim occupied?

Sounds like a great opening day Chris! Interesting to hear that you caught 2 Grayling so far down. I would be very surprised if they have been stocked. More likely something to do with the opening of the Lambourn perhaps? Certainly hope they manage to establish themselves.

Really not sure they can be Lambourn grayling - they have always shown on CSAS at Hambridge - but never got further down - and these ones would have had to go over a fairly sizeable weir too.

Yes Rusty - occupied - frustratingly all the places I wanted to trot were occupied by guys fishing the lead. One was packing up as I too was getting ready to leave - he had blanked. I asked if I got have a couple of trots through as he packed up and had a dace 1st cast - shortly followed by the 2lb chub!
