NAA Stillwater - Widmead

1500 - 0700

Overcast and breezy with light drizzle most of the night after a warm sunny afternoon. Min 15ºC - mild despite the breeze!

6 Carp - all commons - biggest 9lb 13oz, smallest 6lb 8oz. 1 Bream 4lb 8oz. 1 Tench 2lb 8oz. 2 Doz+ Roach and Rudd.

It comes to something when the highlight of your fishing trip is breakfast!!! However the pork and bramley apple sausages, fried egg sandwiches and mugs of steaming fresh tea were much anticipated! The fishing again was slow - Paul and I were after tench and bream - but again were thankful for the occasional carp showing up to put a bend in the rod. And at least these were a little more respectable than last time. Shame, as it started so promisingly - Paul had a bream first cast (he wouldn't get another!) and I spent nearly 20 minutes in mid afternoon battling what we were convinced must be a 20 on my float rod - only for it to turn out to be a 7lb+ common hooked in the derriere - which as Paul was quick to point out doesn't count!!! Still at least the overnight rain wasn't as heavy as forecast - and I was prudently home and dry before the heavens opened. Paul who fished on to try and add to his tally of 5 carp and the bream wasn't quite so lucky but thanks to keeping an eye on the rain radar on his Blackberry missed the worst of it!

Pic (ala Rusty rolleyes.gif ) of the sausages!

And mighty fine looking sausages they are too Chris, not quite as black as they should be but that'll come with more practice. I haven't yet progressed to fried eggs bankside though, I'm very impressed. :D

Speciality sausages & fired egg sandwiches has been our standard fare for breakfast for years. My challenge each time is to try and come up with something different on the sausage front - pork and caramelised onion is a big fav so we have that at least one trip a season but I'm always tasked with trying to find something new! :D

Not too sure about "fired" egg sandwiches, but the fried egg ones are lovely :D

There does appear to be a common trend in a lot of the fishing trips that Chris and I go on these days.....overnighters in the summer, it's cooked breakfast by the lake, he does the sossage and eggs, and I keep another stove going for the tea. In the winter the challenge is a decent home made soup for lunch, Jaq concocts an excellent gingered parsnip version, thick enough to stand a spoon in, just what is required during a chilly day by the river. And finally, I have the responsibility of making sure the pub we stop at when returning from one of our longer distance outings provides good beer, decent food, and for winter outings, a real fire to defrost, or dry out in front of.....spotted the trend yet ? :icecream:

I really do look forward to hot food and fresh tea particularly in Winter, it adds to a good session and renews hope if it’s not so good. I’ve tried most concoctions of flavours and always end up with good old pork bangers.
