  1. thats where the missus hides my fishing rod, so i cant go fishing and take her shopping instead...lol...thanks for the advice lol
  2. hi, just wondering about crayfish, i have just started fishing again a year ago. when i used to fish many years ago, i never heard of it.. but fished a venue close to me, before i went i was told they had cray fish problem, when i got there, the baliff told me they used to have prob with the cray fish, but they have seemed to have all gone. he didnt know why or where they went. or what got rid of the prob. has there suddenly been a boom in them, or has it always been a problem and i have just not noticed s_mac
  3. fishing the pole is not to bad, with a good roller rest. and i have no problem with cyclist, dog walkers and the likes. many of them say good morning or whatever. and are very polite. i understand the blocking of public footpaths. its more a case of who should be considerate, we as fisherman are. lets says its a public right of way, does that mean walkers, or cyclists. or both. im just curious s_mac
  4. no, i didnt get into the argument at the time. i just heard it going on. as much as i wanted to, but had to rods out and would not leave them. but i didnt know about them supposed to have a permit. but does that include a whats as know as a cycle path these days
  5. fishing this morning. on a canal. The rain started coming down, so the brollies went up. The wind was coming down the canal, so our brollies were side on. the canal bank, is about a yard and half, then a cycle track, then a fence. The guy next to me had his pole hit by a cyclist and as i would he went nuts. anyway an argument broke out, about who had the right to be there. so after it all died down, it got me thinking, we as fisherman have to give way to cyclists, i would not want to take the chance of my rod being hit. the part they cycle on is just a dirt track, no hard wearing tarmac or gravel. over time they will just erode the bank. We pay to be there, through our rod license and day tickets or club memberships, which that money goes back to maintaining these places. so we can use them. and the cyclists. so who really has the right. and should the cyclists be made to pay a permit, so that money could maintain the tracks they wish to cycle on, as we pay to maintain our banks and fisheries. i look forward to hearing your views s_mac
  6. the hook is snagged as i real in. no weed problems.. im just wondering is there some method that maybe keeps the hook length float. i was down today checking out the part i wanted to fish. i think i have a found the snag and can get round it now. but a floating method would help if you have one. many thanks s_mac
  7. i understand and agree with what your saying. the point i was trying to get across not to well i admit was. when i put out a hair ring, i seem to be snagged by the hook each time. i was wondering was there a method past that. to keep the bait off the bottom maybe, but still fishing the hair rig. i have not learned any other methods yet. but i will hopefully be learning them next month. as someone said earlier and quite rightly, am i looking for just a way to fish 2 rods. not really, i am practicing for now, by putting out a carp rod and fishing my normal method. but i would like to also get into session carp fishing... i believe i am taking the right gear for carp. 2.75 test curve rod, large landing net, unhooking mat and mouth swab. if i am missing something, i would be very grateful for any advice.
  8. i agree with what you say, i only became a fish monger a year and half ago, but did you know they now farm cod, seabass, halibut, salmon, seabream, and many others, the list is endless these days.. as for the wet fish thing, yes your right when it comes to the english, we buy it all from iceland. but your african, greeks, and the likes, know there fish, its there staple diet. no diff for us with beef pork or lamb. as for fresh water fish, yeah maybe in this country we dont eat the fish from our ponds and lakes... but there are many nationalties that do, polish the biggest threat to us. they eat carp at xmas and easter like we eat turkey. only last sunday morning i chased a polish guy for taking a bream out of the canal i fish. i saw him land it, put it in a bag, so went to approach him and he bolted. the more foreing countries we let in, the more the threat, but at the end of the day, i do totaly agree with you on the over fishing of natural fish.
  9. Im a fish monger for a living, i see the demise in all sorts of fish, the shortages, because of over fishing. now because of the shortages, we farm them. many fish are farmed these days, and thats fresh water as well as sea fish. mother nature has looked after things just fine for thousands of years, till we came along, and decided to fish for this, or cull that, the culling is another word for killing. just a way to justify the killing. we say pike do this and do that, so get rid of them. some ponds and lakes now have crayfish problems, so we look to introduce things to kill the crayfish. then we will look to introduce something to kill what killed the cray fish. i say leave the pike, the fish, the predators alone. if the food chain goes down where there is not enough for them, then they will die off naturally. if theres plenty for all they will thrive. lets enjoy catching all breeds of fish, and return them to the waters, and let mother nature look after things and she knows best. and im no eco warrior. i just love to fish. s_mac
  10. the pellets are fairly small. my g/friend came in with them, they are hi-betaine fish meal pellets, hope that helps s_mac
  11. im a fairly new carp fisherman, by that i mean i coarse fish and put out a carp rod as well. but im hoping to go out fishing soon on carp sessions. anyway, where i fish at the moment in lakes and canals, the canal seems to have alot of snags, probaly a few tesco trolleys dumped over the bridge near by lol. i fish a hair rig, is there another method i can get round the snags, but beeing able to put a rod out while i continue to coarse fish. many thanks. s_mac
  12. going back to the photo, i had a discussion about a similar thing only a few weeks ago.... you have to picture the scene..... its a wedding, all the ladies dressed as in the photo. bride and groom get married. a lovely wedding.... thens its all off to the reception, for dinner and drinks. we all know what its like... you ask your good lady what she would like to drink. us men cant wait to get to the bar....you tell her to go find the table and you will bring the drinks....we as men then all dash to the bar grab our drinks...turn round....NOW WHICH WAS IS YOUR WIFE. 13. just a question going back to the firs post, regarding pellets, i to am unsure about these, what to do with them, i have a bag but never used it. is mainly used as a feed with loose bait, or actualy used as a hook bait. i would be interested to know and give it a try. regards s_mac
  14. im a new carp fisherman buthave caught many carp before, but never targeted them, going on hols in october, i will be staying right near the waters edge for a week, so can fish all hours of the day. the hours im looking to fish is early morning and evenings. it will be a lake im fishing. im looking for some advice, on baits, rigs, and baiting up a swim. for example. would i bait up early morning for the eveing, or lunch time or an hour before, whats the best to use to bait up. what baits would you recomend, the carp are supposed to be around 20lb i would be grateful for any info, and i will let you know how i got on when i get back. and i have a moth to practice what info you give at my local water before i go. many thanks s_mac

  18. i will fish till happens, then if i have never caught a 40lber, ill have it in heaven, they say you can do what you want up there. fish all day and not have the missus nagging when am i going to take her shopping. now thats heaven.
  19. i agree with you, about the tackle shops. the only trouble i have and thats why i have used argos, is that i work the same hours as tackle shops, with only sunday off the same as my tackle shop, my baits and bits i get picked up for me. the tackle shops also have sunday off. if they were open for a few hours on a sunday, i would be happy to spend my money in there every week. like most of us, we go in for a £2.00 packets of hooks and end up spending £50.00 lol.
  20. congrats mate. i know the feeling. and just let me know anyway. as long as its weekend, then i free anytime mate.
  21. i would be happy to drive down one time and fish. pm or email me and we can set something up sometime. your only a couple hours ealry drive from me in london. i would be happy to drive down day before and go b&b if need be.
  22. i totaly agree, i have my top three section fitted with No4 elastic for fishing the canal as my main venue, and as you said about the small gudgeon. they even give you a lovely feel through the rod, as does the bream over a pound that i have taken as well, with no problems at all. the only advice i can give on it and its a slight downfall is that if you use the pole at 11m it can be a bit heavy, but leave the last section of and use that as added extension should you need it if you hook a bigger fish and need a bit extra length, then you cant go wrong.
